My 1st Hummer

Thursday, September 29, 2005
Today on the Northwestern U. campus, I had my first ever RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRD, 2 WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS and a RED-EYED VIREO. Man those hummers are fast! It zipped around the path, hovered for a split second in front of me, and zoomed off.

yay hooray!

tonight, just now, reading your post I feel I suddenly realized what birding is about: It's not that if you are patient you are going to see something extraordinary, it's that you'll see something that is there all time if you only slow down your looking enough to catch it. Which I guess, in turn, is extraordinary...

  • mar mar,

i saw a ruby throated hummer in my backyard a few days ago! my friend susanna and i were checking the new yard (i just moved) out and giggling cause we always interpret the shrill cheeping of humming birds as (in shrill voices) "Me! Me! Memememememememememe! Mine! My tree! Mine! Me!"

    love,
    lex
